Poly(methyl 2-methylpropenoate) is better known as Lucite, Perspex and Altuglas (when in sheet form) and as Diakon (when in powder form), belongs to the important acrylic family of resins which is transparent and rigid plastic. In modern production it is obtained principally from propylene, a compound refined from the lighter fractions of crude oil.
